Two
main characters are featured in National Insurance Company’s
history. One is our founder, Carlos M. Benítez Senior; the
other is our group of insured clients, the ones who comprise the
basis of our business.
Carlos M. Benítez
Senior was born in the Puerto Rican municipality of Vieques. During
the 1940s he moved to San Juan and attended the University of Puerto
Rico, then went on to complete a Master’s Degree in Toronto,
Canada. Those who had the privilege of knowing Don Carlos, as he
was affectionately called, described him as a visionary, as a person
filled with a profound human quality and a hard-working nature.
For him, serving his fellow men and women was a privilege. The insurance
industry was the arena chosen by don Carlos to serve the public.
He dedicated himself to this task since 1956, when he founded the
Carlos M. Benítez Inc. insurance agency.
In 1961, realizing that
he could serve his clients even better, don Carlos founded a property
and casualty insurance company that came to be known as National
Insurance Company. Since founded, this 100% Puerto Rican company
evidenced a continuous growth and came to occupy a privileged position
in the local insurance history. An important step on the company’s
path to success was taken in 1984 with the inauguration of a Florida
office. Throughout the years, National Insurance Company has promptly
and efficiently met its commitment towards its insured clients,
as shown in the aftermath of hurricanes Hugo (1889), Andrew (1992),
and Georges (1998). Today, National Insurance Company continues
to create products that address the specific needs of its clients.
After graduating in Business
Administration from High Point College in South Carolina and seeking
further education in London, Switzerland and Germany, Carlos M.
Benítez, Jr. accepted the challenge to continue the work
begun by his father and in 1983 became president of National Insurance
Company. Since then, he has embraced the service ideals learned
from childhood: “We have a commitment to review the needs
of our clients and we have the challenge to provide better coverage.
Our roots are in Puerto Rico, we know the market well and we strive
to improve our client’s insurance conditions for they are
the reason we exist.”
Our company history began
with the ideal of a visionary and his commitment to make his vision
a reality. Today the insurance industry features a company comprised
of professionals who have a commitment to that same vision of quality
and service. National Insurance Company relies on the experience
of the people who have been with us from the start, as well as those
who have joined our team to carry on the legacy of excellence we
have set for ourselves within the insurance industry. All members
of our staff help us write another chapter in the history of a solid
company that recognizes the value of the past and works hard towards
a future filled with improved services for all our insured clients.
