Since day one, National Insurance Company
has evidenced a clear and strong commitment towards community involvement,
especially towards helping the younger and older segments of the
population. National Insurance Company’s leading community
aid efforts include:
True to the vision of company founder
don Carlos M. Benítez, National Insurance Company sponsors
young Puerto Ricans who want to continue their education at the
College of Insurance in New York. National Insurance Company also
provides student internships in its own offices, as well as in other
companies that are part of the National Group. In addition, National
Insurance Company has been an active sponsor of numerous sporting,
educational and cultural events that benefit students at all academic
levels.
“Hogar Nuestra Señora de
la Providencia” (Our Lady of Providence Senior Citizens’
Home), located in San Juan’s Puerta de Tierra sector, benefits
from funds derived from the Carlos M. Benitez Memorial Classic,
a golf tournament created in 1996 by the Benítez-Rivera family
to honor the late company founder, don Carlos M. Benítez.
Proceeds from the tournament are given to the senior citizens’
home for ongoing improvements. The golf tournament attracts players
from prestigious insurance firms and numerous companies in Puerto
Rico and the United States. Their attendance and support help us
in our mission to improve the quality of life of those senior citizens
convalescing or residing at the home.
National Insurance Company has sponsored
local artists as well as numerous cultural events. In order to contribute
to the preservation and promulgation of our local culture, National
Insurance Company recently acquired biographical compilations of
some of Puerto Rico’s key modern illustrious citizens, contained
in the “Autógrafo I and II” collections. These
collections were donated to local schools with the help of the Puerto
Rico Department of Education’s Community Liaison Office.
Each year, National Insurance Company joins National Group’s
remaining companies to sponsor fundraising events for different
non-profit organizations in Puerto Rico, including the American
Heart Association, United Way of Puerto Rico, MDA, SER of Puerto
Rico, the Down Syndrome Foundation, and others.
Throughout its 40-year history, our company has also sponsored
several insurance industry initiatives in Puerto Rico. These initiatives
seek to foster the industry’s continued improvement throughout
the island and to promulgate healthy insurance practices to benefit
Puerto Rico’s economic development. These include:
